Here is my continued discomfort with the Apple Vision Pro and how its announcement/roll-out has gone: In every single way, this is a dev kit, which, I think, is completely valid and is the proper positioning for a device like this at this stage. But Apple, while somewhat positioning it like a dev kit in terms of price/release/how it can be tried out, continues to market this as a direct to consumer device. You cannot be both, and I cannot stress this enough. You cannot be both.

Ihr Telefon hob erst mit der vierten Auflage ab – sowohl technisch als auch im Verkauf. iPhone Classic, 3G und 3GS waren Nischenprodukte. Es waren keine Prototypen, aber rückblickend nur der Auftakt für das iPhone 4 mit Retina-Display und eigenem A-Prozessor.
„It’s a Marathon, not a sprint.“ Klar. Ich habe auch wenig Bedenken an Apples Enthusiasmus und langen Atem für diese neue Produktkategorie. Ich bin ungebrochen optimistisch, dass wir uns alle die vielen „Wie und warum“-Fragen noch beantworten werden.
Mein Hype bleibt ungebrochen, aber über die sonderbare Startschuss-Strategie rätsele ich – selbst wenn’s nur den US-only Release mit begrenzter Produktionskapazität betrifft. Die vergangenen Monate verflogen ohne substanziell neue Informationen oder eine kohärente Geschichte. Gibt’s ein einziges neues Produktfoto seit der WWDC? Update: Ja, zwei.
Apple Vision Pro startet, so wie es im Moment aussieht, mit einem zum Teil unbekannten Feature-Umfang. Es fehlt an realistischen Produkt-Demos; an weltlichen Videos, in denen Apple zeigt, was tatsächlich geht. Wo ist die Preview zur Apple Vision Pro?
