„Supercharging Android“ – Google setzt Motorola vor die Tür

Google tritt sein 12.5-Milliarden-Motorola nach 2.5 Jahren, keinem Patentgewinn und erfolgloser Hardware, für 3 Milliarden US-Dollar an Lenovo ab (NYTimes, TechCrunch, Reuters). Larry Page, im August 2011:

Our acquisition of Motorola will increase competition by strengthening Google’s patent portfolio, which will enable us to better protect Android from anti-competitive threats from Microsoft, Apple and other companies.

Im Dezember 2012 verkaufte Google bereits Motorola Home, die Abteilung der Set-Top-Boxen, für 2.35 Milliarden US-Dollar. Ob der Patent-Pool in Mountain View verbleibt oder ebenfalls nach China wandert, ist noch offen. Trotzdem: "Souverän ist anders." Update:
